How Jeff Staple Turned the Pigeon Into a Streetwear Icon

In 2024, the Clippers are scheduled to leave Crypto.com Arena for their own arena, Intuit Dome. Crypto.com Arena (formerly Staples Center) is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Downtown Los Angeles. Opened on October 17, 1999, it is located next to the Los Angeles Convention Center complex along Figueroa Street, and has since been considered a part of L.A. For the fabulous host, caviar is such a refined gift to add a special flare to a night with guests.

Accutron Returns To The Space Age

Scientists say it is now spreading beyond farms into places and species it has never been before. So basically, this virus is spreading to places it’s never been before, kind of virgin snow territory, where animals just don’t have the immunity against it. And once it gets into a population packed on a beach, say, of elephant seals, it’s just like a knife through butter. And also in the past, wild birds have not traditionally gotten very sick from this virus. And this version of the virus not only spread widely through the wild bird population, but it proved to be devastating.

So almost the entire new generation of this colony. These are scientists that have studied these seals for decades. And they said they’ve never seen anything like it before. The arena has hosted three public memorials for celebrities.

Nike's SB Dunk “Panda Pigeon” to Be Packaged in Special Wooden Box

It is scary, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed by it. And I feel like I should take a step back and say none of this is inevitable. None of this is necessarily happening tomorrow. One is just how much virus is out there in the environment being shed by wild birds into water and onto beaches.

Crypto.com Arena

The manager asked him where he got it, and then placed an order for 12 more. Within a few years Ng’s company (named Staple Design after his streetwear alter ego, Jeff Staple) was a successful fashion/graphic design/marketing studio collaborating with some of the industry’s biggest brands. In 2005, when a limited-edition drop of his Staple Nike SB “Pigeon” sneaker caused a small riot outside Staple Design’s retail store, Jeff Staple became a streetwear legend. Yeah, I mean, thinking about vaccinating wild animals maybe makes vaccinating all the chickens in the US look easy. There has been some discussion of limited vaccination campaigns, but that’s not feasible on a global scale. So unfortunately, the bottom line is there isn’t a good way to stop spread in wild animals.

And they’re getting nervous, in particular, about the fact that this virus is reaching places and species where it’s never been before. One thing that comes up again and again and again in my interviews with people who have been studying bird flu for decades, is how this virus never stops surprising them. And sometimes those are bad surprises, like these elephant seal die-offs, the incursions into dairy cattle. But there are some encouraging signs that have emerged recently. We’re starting to see some early evidence that some of the bird populations that survived early brushes with this virus might be developing some immunity. So that’s something that maybe could help slow the spread of this virus in animal populations.

That’s the best case scenario, when designers like Aime Leon Doré or Awake or Heron Preston are extending what streetwear means. Well, the reason it’s become such a threat is because of how widespread it’s become in wild birds. So they keep reintroducing it to wild animal populations pretty much anywhere they go. So we’ve seen the virus repeatedly pop up in all sorts of animals that you might figure would eat a wild bird, so foxes, bobcats, bears. My thinking five years ago was that every year was the year that the streetwear bubble was going to explode and streetwear would be dead. But now, because of the Louis Vuitton/Supreme thing, that’s only the beginning to me.

Yes, so I have been covering this virus for the last few years. And the bird flu is absolutely tearing through poultry flocks, and that is affecting egg prices. That’s a concern for everyone, for me and for my family. But when it comes to scientists, egg prices are pretty low on their list of concerns. Because they see this bird flu virus behaving differently than previous versions have.

But that’s a disaster that sometimes seems distant from us, both geographically, we’re talking about things that are happening maybe at the tip of Argentina or in Antarctica. And also from our concerns of our everyday lives, what’s happening in Penguins might not seem like it has a lot to do with the price of a carton of eggs at the grocery store. There’s also the fact that these particular species, these sea lions and seals, tend to breed in these huge colonies all crowded together on beaches. And so what that means is if a virus makes its way into the colony, it’s very conducive conditions for it to spread. And scientists think that that’s actually what’s happening now. That it’s not just that all these seals are picking up the virus from individual birds, but that they’re actually passing it to each other.

But because streetwear wasn't even a defined genre at that point yet,  I was nervous, and I was scared, but I never felt like my life or my well-being was on the line. It was still pretty punk rock, in the sense of, “I don't know what I'm doing. Let's give it a try.” But it wasn't that, “Holy shit, they're going to repo my home, or my credit rating is going to collapse, or I'm never going to be able to buy a car after this.” I don't know. It was much more innocent and naive at the time.

With our huge selection of channels, and the many packages Spectrum TV offers, you'll never look at television the same way again. You can skip on the basic cable TV package and get your internet solo instead. To get cheap basic cable TV plans, you may need to call and ask a customer rep about them. Basic cable TV plans run $20–$70 per month, but you probably won’t see them advertised on your TV provider’s website. Still, if you’ve set your heart on basic cable, go ahead and give your local cable TV provider a call.

Charter to acquire Bright House Networks for $10.4 billion

Spectrum Mobile utilizes Charter’s cable internet infrastructure and Verizon’s 4G and 5G networks. Spectrum uses the “wireless speeds may vary” disclaimer because WiFi fluctuates. You can see 600Mbps in one second and 550Mbps in another in just one sitting. WiFi uses radio waves, after all, so interference plays a big part in your wireless speed. A neighbor’s WiFi, nearby radar, the building’s structure, other wireless devices, the time of day, an active microwave, and software issues are just a handful of factors that can affect your WiFi speed. Keep in mind that, generally, people run speed tests because they notice slowdowns with their connections.

The approval in California was not always considered an easy absolute, with a consumer watchdog group there not keen on the acquisition. However, a California administrative judge recommended the deal last month (with conditions) saying it is in the public interest. SpectrumCo's sale and transfer of its advanced wireless spectrum to Verizon Wireless is subject to approval by the Federal Communications Commission and review under the Hart-Scott Rodino Act and other customary conditions. Comcast owns 63.6% of SpectrumCo and will receive approximately $2.3 billion from the sale. Time Warner Cable owns 31.2% of SpectrumCo and will receive approximately $1.1 billion.

Upon closing, a new shareholder’s agreement with Advance/Newhouse and Liberty Broadband will become effective. Under the new agreement, Advance/Newhouse and Liberty Broadband will be granted preemptive rights, allowing each to maintain their pro rata ownership in New Charter. The Shareholder’s Agreement also provides for voting caps and required participation in buybacks at specified acquisition caps, and stipulates transfer restrictions among other shareholder governance matters. Billing is the same, customer service numbers are the same, subscription packages are the same, and "the trucks will still have Bright House on the side," Dudley said. Frontier Communications' April 1 takeover of Verizon's Internet, cable TV and landline services in the Tampa Bay area has generally been considered a fiasco, with reports of outages, bad customer service and poor technical support.

There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase, a SQL command or malformed data. I've lived in LA for the past few years but had never dined at Cecconi's. Be careful to choose an antenna that will pick up all your locally broadcasted channels. The FCC has a handy dandy map to help you locate how far different TV towers are from your home so you can make the best choice for you. These services work on a lot of devices, which makes on-the-go viewing a natural part of the experience. Just make sure there’s Wi-Fi at your on-the-go locations, since you’ll need internet to support your streaming.

Do I have to pay for cable TV to get internet?

"If you're a legacy Bright House customer, you don't have to do anything — you will remain at the price and the package that you have." The Stamford, Conn., company completed a $71 billion acquisition of Bright House and Time Warner Cable in May, making it the Tampa Bay area's largest Internet and cable TV provider. This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks.

Keep in mind that most basic cable packages do not include actual cable channels, just local over-the-air channels. Dish Networks’ Spanish-language product, DishLATINO, is available almost everywhere in the U.S. DishLATINO Básico ($61.99 monthly for 55+ channels) is the best satellite TV basic cable package—from our Editor’s Choice pick for the best overall TV provider. While its basic cable package, Local TV, is a bit pricey at $69.00 monthly for 60 channels (set-top box included), Verizon Fios’ fiber optic network reliably delivers channels with pristine picture quality. Basically (pardon the pun), basic cable isn’t the only way to get cheap. Some streaming TV services are free (but they don’t include local channels).

"That process has been ongoing, and really invisible to the customer with little if any impact at all, and we're continuing that going forward." Spectrum Voice provides much more than just being able to talk all you want. As well as unlimited local and long distance calling, Spectrum Voice includes up to 28 popular phone features like Voicemail and Block Unwanted Callers. We’ve set it up so that the information you get corresponds to the Xfinity region where you live. All these cable TV plans and streaming alternatives come with monthly payments. If you want to keep things simple—local channel access for a one-time fee—over-the-air (OTA) TV is the way to go. If you also need high-speed internet service, you can combine Local TV with Verizon’s 300 Mbps internet plan ($49.99 monthly) for a nice little bundle costing $118.99 a month. And if you’re already a Verizon Mobile customer, the internet plan is only $24.99, dropping the bundle price to $94.00 monthly.

Our expert industry analysis and practical solutions help you make better buying decisions and get more from technology. Charter’s bid for Bright House is the latest multibillion-dollar deal this year, as big corporations in industries including technology, media and health care carry out expensive mergers and acquisitions. Already this year, over $843 billion in deals have been announced, according to Thomson Reuters. The wave of consolidation now reshaping the media industry continued on Tuesday when Charter Communications announced a $10.4 billion deal for Bright House Networks, now the sixth-largest cable operator in the United States. According to Charter Communications in April 2016, the transaction value of Time Warner Cable was ~$80.9 billion based on certain assumptions, including Charter Communications’ closing price on March 18, 2016.

Next up was the $36 cavatelli lamb ragù, which didn't live up to its price tag.

On-demand services usually cost between $5 and $20 per month, and live TV streaming services can be anywhere from $25 to a whopping $160 per month. And since your cable provider will want you to choose a starter plan (or one of the even more expensive plans), it’s not as likely to have as many hidden fees. The networks feature 24-hour coverage of Pac-12 sanctioned sporting events, including Olympic sports as well as broadcasts of archived sports telecasts. The contract ensures that every football and men's basketball game is televised nationally.[5] Sports not featured on the national Pac-12 Network are instead carried through the regional networks as well as on the Pac-12 Digital Network, which was launched the same day. In addition, Liberty Broadband Corporation has agreed to purchase, upon closing of the Bright House transaction, $700 million of newly issued New Charter shares at the Reference Price.

The averages you see here could reflect issues with WiFi, the modem, or something else outside the home. Some customers may still have 100Mbps and 200Mbps max speeds due to the local infrastructure. As of late 2011, Time Warner Cable stopped signing up new Road Runner Mobile customers under resold Clearwire WiMAX service. Existing WiMAX customers could continue to use the service, but TWC began signing up new Road Runner Mobile customers under resold Verizon Wireless 4G LTE services.

Not only that, but streaming services are a reasonably cheap alternative to basic cable, with more live cable channels and loads of on-demand content. In addition, the network entered into extended negotiations with satellite providers. Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott stated in a May 8, 2012 interview with sports radio station KJR in Seattle that he is "quietly optimistic" that deals with providers would be made in time for the channel's planned fall 2012 launch.

Additionally, the cable companies and Verizon Wireless have formed an innovation technology joint venture for the development of technology to better integrate wireline and wireless products and services. The agreement comes at a time when consumer demand for wireless services and bandwidth is increasing rapidly. This sale of spectrum is an important step toward ensuring that the needs and desires of consumers for additional mobile services will not be thwarted by the current spectrum shortage. While government action to free more spectrum is expected, this transaction ensures that the spectrum which is already available for mobile services is used effectively to serve customers. The business will be conducted through a partnership of which Charter will own 73.7%, and of which Advance/Newhouse will own 26.3%. The consideration to be paid to Advance/Newhouse by New Charter will include common and convertible preferred units in the Partnership, in addition to $2 billion in cash.

Two very glamorous older women — perfectly coiffed hair, gold jewelry, Jackie O sunglasses — sat across from us. There was ample seating throughout the airy space, including a nearly empty tented dining area in front of the entrance. We now live in a hybrid world, but the "power lunch" is due for a comeback. During 2023 discussions were ongoing toward agreeing a new media rights agreement to start in 2024 but by August 2023 an agreement, expected to be with Apple TV, had not been concluded. Following further talks between the schools, and in a drastic conference realignment, the universities of Oregon and Washington announced a move to the Big Ten, while the universities of Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and Arizona State announced a move to the Big 12.

And, again, you pay for an over-the-air (OTA) TV antenna only once—and basic cable as a monthly payment. Choose Spectrum’s cable internet if you don’t have access to fiber and want faster speeds than DSL. Spectrum streamlines your choices and throws in a rent-free modem, gateway, or SONU to boot. Spectrum also offers fiber-to-the-home service, but it’s only available in new neighborhoods other fiber providers haven’t claimed (like AT&T). However, for now, Spectrum’s Gig fiber plan is 500Mbps or 1,000Mbps in upload speed, depending on where you live. If you don’t happen to live in those areas, Astound Broadband’s New York service area has the best basic cable package.

Spectrum’s biggest competitors are AT&T, Verizon, and Frontier, which all provide fiber and DSL internet in areas that overlap Spectrum’s cable internet service areas. All three internet plans include one Spectrum Mobile line and Spectrum Advanced WiFi for one low price during the first 12 months. Most of its coverage lies within the Eastern and Central time zones and along the West Coast. Spectrum has some fiber-to-the-premises internet too, but only in new neighborhoods and rural areas, so availability is limited. You won’t know which internet type you can get until you speak with a Spectrum representative.

Napoleon and fake-Pluto get into a full-on brawl at one point and Napoleon squeezes him so hard the cat’s eye pops out. We learn that even though Roderick brought Griswold the pitch about Ligodone, he didn’t accept it from him but instead went and bought Landor Pharma, the company with the chemist who made the drug. But Griswold does promote Roderick and give him a raise, intimating that he’ll keep helping him climb the ladder if Roderick keeps coming up with these good ideas.

Roderick sings "The Haunted Palace", then tells the narrator that he believes the house he lives in to be alive, and that this sentience arises from the arrangement of the masonry and vegetation surrounding it. Further, Roderick believes that his fate is connected to the family mansion. Spent most of my life in various parts of Illinois, including attending college in Evanston. I have been a life long lover of pop culture, especially television, turned that passion into writing about all things entertainment related.

Bumps in the Night

Frightened, Auguste runs out of the house and watches it completely collapse behind him. Roderick tells Auguste in the present-day timeline that the details of that night faded away and eventually it just felt like a dream, never to come up again until decades later when his children started dying. In the present time, which we are quickly approaching with Roderick’s story, Auguste tells Roderick that once he heard he had lost Fortunato, he was told to give up the case. Lenore continues to send text messages to Roderick but he ignores her, which confuses Auguste. The wrecking ball comes in and Frederick and Verna lay on the floor together as the building comes down.

Eliza was buried alive, and while she remains near death, she digs herself out just long enough to throttle her son before stalking over to Longfellow’s fancy house and strangling him to death. Frederick heads to the building where Perry hosted the party with a crew of guys who are going to tear it down. He asks them to give him a minute while he goes to take care of something inside, and when he walks in he starts doing more cocaine. She tells him that he’s actually snorted the nightshade paralytic that he’s been giving Morrie. As he’s on the floor and unable to get up, Morrie takes out a walkie-talkie, puts on Frederick’s voice, and tells the crew they’re good to bulldoze the building.

Fans of creator Mike Flanagan know that his entire body of work sits within the horror genre, but this show is more sinister than chilling. As the episodes press forward, an aura of foreboding is infused throughout the scenes. Since the redeemable characters within the series are almost non-existent, watching the demise of the Ushers is nothing to be horrified about, but it is grisly nonetheless.

American horror drama television miniseries / From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Roderick and Madeline are the only remaining members of the Usher family. The finale is another episode that takes its inspiration from a few different Poe stories. The titular poem, "The Raven" references the tragic death of Roderick's granddaughter Lenore. Roderick and Madeline bricking up Griswold (Michael Trucco) behind a wall in the basement is the same unpleasant method of murder found in "The Cask of Amontillado", complete with fool's costume. Meanwhile, Madeline's death at the hands of her own brother is pretty much straight out of "The Fall of the House of Usher" — though his grisly technique is more akin to "Some Words with a Mummy." On Twitter, Mike Flanagan announced that The Fall of the House of Usher would feature the largest ensemble in his production company’s history.

Spread across eight episodes, this riveting, sexy, and disturbing limited series allows Flanagan to bring to life some of Edgar Allan Poe’s most famous short stories and poems. You’ll get a little of “The Raven,” some “Tell-Tale Heart,” “Annabel Lee,” and much more. Each episode is stuffed with literary easter eggs and fun references for fans to watch and rewatch over and over again. Just like in the episode, Poe's short story of the same name features a party thrown by a character called Prospero (played in the series by Sauriyan Sapkota) which is crashed by a mysterious masked figure.

How did Roderick and Madeline end up assuming control of a pharmaceutical company to which they were, at best, illegitimate and unacknowledged heirs? I’m guessing it had something to do with Verna, who has popped up in a series of otherwise unexplained jump scares throughout the episode, along with Roderick’s dead kids and one terrifying jester. “It’s batshit crazy in the best possible way,” Carla Gugino told Netflix during production. “It has quite a lot of very dark humor, but also really touches the soul.” In the series, Gugino portrays a shape-shifter named Verna, whose origins can be traced back to a — let’s just say — very famous Poe character. “There is a fantastical supernatural element to the story, and she is the manifestation of that,” she added. As these first look photos and posters reveal, Verna isn’t one to be played with.

He calls Goldbug “their” business, but she corrects him and says it’s hers. Bill says that Tammy must be losing it and reminds her that the hookers were her idea before walking away. In a flashback, we see Madeline approach Roderick’s boss Griswold back in the ’70s with a business proposition, pitching him on technology that can help the company sell drugs better.

Madeline places the bottle of Ligodone in his hand and hears that strange bell noise from the wall before walking away. In a flashback scene, it’s Roderick and Auguste’s big day — they’re going to go on the record to take down Fortunato. However, Roderick decides to go against the plan they formed and lies under oath.

Lenore goes to see her dad who’s bowling in their house, asking if a doctor is ever coming. Frederick basically blows her off, however, saying that Morrie is doing well and the doctors will come if they need to. Lenore apologizes to her dad for all of the loss he’s experiencing, but he assures her he’s okay. He’s acting very weird, likely because of the drugs, and continues to bowl instead of comforting his daughter. Arthur explains that he found an image of the woman on the internet, which led to the discovery of several more photos. Arthur found photos of Verna taken throughout history, showing up in pictures with famous people like Mark Zuckerberg, Mitch McConnell, the Rockefellers, and others.

At this point, they have Tamerlane and Frederick and are struggling to make ends meet. But Madeline starts to suspect that this woman might be the bartender from that fateful New Years Eve. She returns to the bar they visited that night, but it’s been closed down.

She has nowhere else to go right now, and she sweetly tucks in her grandfather before heading to a guest bed to sleep. Roderick doesn’t realize that the bloodline ending with him means his granddaughter has to die, too. Finally, Roderick comes clean to Auguste in the present timeline about what happened that night in 1980 and how it changed his and Madeline’s entire lives. Lenore is able to bust into her mom’s room and discovers the state she’s in, quickly calling the cops for help.

This is just one of the many exciting shows on the October 2023 TV schedule. • Kudos to Bruce Greenwood, who is absolutely nailing the role of Roderick Usher despite being cast halfway through production to replace Frank Langella, the show’s original star, who was fired after a misconduct investigation. This isn’t Greenwood’s first time in a Flanagan production; he co-starred with Carla Gugino in Gerald’s Game and played a supporting role in Doctor Sleep, Flanagan’s sequel to The Shining.

As one of the two surviving members of the Usher family in “The Fall of the House of Usher,” Roderick is one of Poe’s character doubles, or doppelgangers. Roderick is intellectual and bookish, and his twin sister, Madeline, is ill and bedridden. Roderick’s inability to distinguish fantasy from reality resembles his sister’s physical weakness. Poe uses these characters to explore the philosophical mystery of the relationship between mind and body. With these twins, Poe imagines what would happen if the connection between mind and body were severed and assigned to separate people.

Sophisticated logo design with elegant frame, and line art cupcake. This packaging was made for very tasty cakes with three different flavors. First my wish was to make it very luxurious and tasty. So when people will go to market they will see these packages and will buy it, because of not usual and not boring look. Overall, this is a reliable place to order birthday cake for a crowd. Cake and Art tends to focus on sheet cakes, sculpted cakes, and cut-out cakes for commemorative events.

I started off with the body of the car and covered it in red butter icing. I smoothened the butter icing on the body of the cake, leaving out the car windshield, windows, and the wheels. The cake is baked in a 3D car mold from Wilton and is very easy to use. This is so that your cake comes out easily without sticking to the tin. This is particularly important because of the many bends and dents in the shape of the car can pan. These bends and dents make it hard to use a knife or spatula to help in releasing the cake.

SusieCakes is another Los Angeles bakery franchise that does consistently great custom cakes. Like many of the bakers on this list, they specialize in custom cakes, but the homemade taste sets them apart. The team here can create a completely custom birthday cake for you– but they’re also willing to significantly tweak standard-themed cakes to suit your specific tastes and preferences. The City of Angels is increasingly regarded as one of the best culinary cities in America, and this is especially true when it comes to bakeries and celebrations. Roughly crumb coat both cakes with vanilla buttercream and set them in the refrigerator to set. Once the crumb coat is firm, apply a second, thicker coat of buttercream. This second coat should be thick enough that the cake below does not show. Start by smoothing the top of the car to push out any air bubbles and continue to smooth the fondant out all around. Tuck in the fondant that lies over the tire space, this will be covered by the actual tires.

To use fondant, first, ensure your cake is completely cooled and firm. Roll out the fondant into a large, thin sheet and carefully drape it over the cake, smoothing it out with your hands or a fondant smoother. Trim off any excess fondant and gently mold and shape it to resemble the car’s body. Use food coloring and additional fondant to create details and decorations. To start, you'll need to decide on the type of cake you'd like to make. Some popular choices for car cakes include chocolate, vanilla, and red velvet.

They don’t do cake writing, “decorations” or “themes”, per se. Rather, all of their cakes achieve beauty in the form of rustic simplicity. As the star of the hit cake decorating reality show Ace of Cakes, Goldman is now the veritable go-to favorite for Hollywood celebrities and tastemakers.

I used Swiss Meringue Buttercream to frost it as my whipping cream is not that stable. Also the buttercream tastes really good and can be relied upon as not to loose its shape. Overall, this car shaped cake was fairly easy to make, the only thing that took me some time was working with the butter icing as it requires a fair bit of smoothing which I did with my icing spatula.

I used a cupcake corer to remove the space for the wheels. Round the four corners of the cake and cut an angle from top to bottom to create the proper width of the cake. You can also see a short video on how I carved the cake using my template. I have used Sarah’s tutorial myself in a few of my cakes. This is a Lamborghini cake I made for my Aadi not long ago.

You can shape and mould the fondant or chocolate into the desired shape and then attach it to the cake using a little bit of frosting as glue. Once you've chosen your cake flavor, it's time to get creative with the decorations. There are many different ways to decorate a car cake, and the options are only limited by your imagination. The color theme is often red, black and white with gumpaste modelled race cars, checkered textures, tires, race flags and flames elements. But they’re many designs that have blue, green, orange and yellow colors woven in depending on one’s theme and child’s age. This colorful Disney Cake is the perfect way to treat yourself and your McQueen lover kids, and it could be a lovely cake that you could bring to kid’s parties or a gift to a kid on his birthday. If you are a beginner in baking or decorating cakes using fondant, you will find making this cake easy, and it will be an excellent start.

Which 'Fall of the House of Usher' episode is which Poe story?

the fall of the house of usher episodes

Prospero had a street drug known as “Monty” in his system when he died. Monty is a derivative of Ligodone and the fact it was in Prospero’s system was redacted from the coroner’s report for at least a week, on Arthur Pym’s behest. Roderick isn’t all that phased by this as he says it happens all the time. Sometimes he even wishes he never stumbled upon this little pill, revealing another flashback to his time as a young adult on the up and up at Fortunato. The other subplots in this episode revolve around another flashback to the time when Madeline and Roderick were young adults.

Episode 8, "The Raven"

Roderick and Madeline demand every member of the family attend a dinner where they’re forced to sign ironclad NDAs to protect themselves from the informant possibly spilling something that could ruin them. He wants the siblings to suss out which one of them has gone to the feds. Patriarch Roderick Usher is the owner of Fortunato Pharmaceuticals who created the notable opioid, Ligodone, basically the show’s version of OxyContin.

Where to Watch

The death of Frederick Usher (Henry Thomas), which is caused by a pendulous piece of building material swinging slowly down to cut him open, is almost straight out of Poe's "The Pit and the Pendulum". But Frederick's removal of his wife's teeth, one of the most disturbing and WTF moments of the entire show, appears to have been loosely inspired by a story called "Berenice". That grim tale sees a man obsessing over cousin's teeth and eventually removing them after she dies. Poe may have a short story called "The Gold-Bug", but it's his story "William Wilson" that the "Goldbug" episode most resembles. This episode follows Tamerlane Usher (Samantha Sloyan) as she's haunted by an almost identical version of herself, which is exactly what happens to the main character in Poe's story.

‘The Simpsons’ Producer Apologizes for Surprise Death: ‘We Certainly Didn't Kill the Character Off Lightly’

Though he tries to open up about needing her, there’s something wrong with Victorine. He asks her to turn down the music and when she does, they both hear the clicking noise. As she was about to walk out of the door, Victorine chucked some type of decorative object at her head and ended up killing her. The episode ends with a glimpse of Napoleon’s dead body as the “fake” Pluto crawls on top of him, now good as new with no injury to speak of. There’s also a peek in the bathtub and none of the creepy critters the cat brought are there.

The Netflix Limited Series Has Eight Episodes

Most of the flashbacks to a young Usher and Dupin are thin, especially compared to the wicked fun on display in the fates of the Usher children. It feels like padding to get episodes to a full hour when Flanagan and company could have leaned even more into the episodic structure that highlights a single Poe per chapter. Under the guise that she might have sex with him, Madeline gets Griswold in a vulnerable situation and drugs him with something that makes him unable to walk, leaving him passed out on the floor.

However, it’s also a reminder that while the powerful may delay settling a tab, debts must often be paid in blood when collection time comes — whether in one generation or the next. • Roderick and Madeline have a strange and fascinating dynamic (and not just because they sleep in the same bed long after two kids should be doing that). It’s not as if Madeline doesn’t have any power — she’s the COO to Roderick’s CEO — but while Roderick is apparently the public face of the company, she seems like the one who’s truly visionary and decisive behind the scenes.

To secure their fortune — and future — two ruthless siblings build a family dynasty that begins to crumble when their heirs mysteriously die, one by one. After Lenore’s death, Roderick goes to his office and realizes the time has come. He turns around and sees a vision of his dead children and grandchild all sitting in chairs. It starts raining outside and when Roderick looks, it turns out to be bodies falling from the sky, not actual rain. Verna says those are all of his victims who died at the hands of Fortunato’s drugs. She instructs Roderick to go back to his childhood home and call Auguste to come meet him.

He’s clearly still very hurt about the fact that Morrie lied the night she went to Perry’s party, and he’s not going to let it go. Victorine meets with the patient about to go through with the heart trial, who is really Verna, and although she admits to being nervous, she agrees to go through with it if Al says it’s a good idea. Victorine starts to hear a weird, repetitive chirping noise and she can’t figure out where it’s coming from. The noise continues to get really loud before abruptly stopping and then starting back up again. A funeral is held for Perry, Camille, and Leo, and at the church, Roderick has more disturbing visions of his kids’ bodies.

The Fall of the House of Usher episode 5 recap: The Tell-Tale Heart

He’s currently taking on Mr. “The Raven” himself, Edgar Allan Poe, with a new Netflix limited series based on The Fall of the House of Usher. One of the most intriguing components of life is the realization that we all have a tab, and at one point or another, a bill will come due. The 1% who hold the majority of the wealth and influence globally typically don’t abide by these same rules. The upper echelons of society move through life seemingly without repercussions by leaching off the powerless.

What’s more interesting is to watch how the fallout of their decisions fell on Roderick’s many children, all torn apart by some of Poe’s most memorable creations. In the present time, Auguste finally comes clean and tells Roderick that there was never actually an informant and that it was just made up as an attempt to turn the Usher family against each other. He explains that if he knew the siblings would start dying, he would’ve never said it.

“Into the world together, out of the world together, or there’s no deal,” Madeline says. She asks Roderick to be a hero again, handing him 80 milligrams of Ligodone. They believe Roderick has to kill himself to put a stop to what’s happening. He takes handfuls of pills and begins crying before passing out on the floor.

What’s On Netflix reported that, according to Production Weekly, this Netflix limited series was scheduled to begin filming on January 24th, 2022 and end on May 25th, 2022. However, Flanagan confirmed (via Twitter) that filming wrapped on July 9, 2022. It didn’t officially begin filming until January 31 (also confirmed via Twitter). The initial project announcement of The Fall of the House of Usher revealed that Mike Flanagan would direct four episodes and Michael Fimognari would direct the other four episodes. Fans of Mike Flanagan may recognize many of the names from previous projects, including The Midnight Club  and the well-reviewed film adaptation of Doctor Sleep. Just in time for spooky season, The Fall of the House of Usher streams on Netflix on October 12, 2023.

We get a flashback to the ’70s when Annabel decides she’s going to leave Roderick after he lies on the record. In the final scene of the episode, Madeline goes to see Roderick who is sitting in the Fortunato basement again. She tells him that Frederick is dead and reminds him of what they agreed to.

In a final fit of rage, she attacks her brother, scaring him to death as she herself expires. The narrator then runs from the house, and, as he does, he notices a flash of moonlight behind him. He turns back in time to see the Moon shining through the suddenly widened crack in the house. As he watches, the House of Usher splits in two and the fragments sink away into the lake. Although it borrows its title directly from one of the Poe's most famous stories, Episode 7 really has a couple of different sources.

Al decides she’s out and Victorine begs her not to tell anyone about what’s happened, bringing up the fact that she signed an NDA. But Alessandra assures her she’s going to tell and she doesn’t care if she gets sued. It’s a mixture of revulsion and hilarity as we watch Julius return home to see the entire place torn to shreds and his boyfriend on a rampage. Julius thinks this is the drugs and ultimately, he’s helpless to do anything as the cat lures Napoleon onto the balcony, where he flies over the edge and plummets to his death. She’s fully infiltrating the life of every member of the Usher family it seems. Verna claims she’s the new hire, Candy, replacing the previous girl to partake in Tamerlane’s little sex game.

Two touch tanks hold sharks, horseshoe crabs, stingrays and sea stars. The aquarium also hosts daily dive shows and rotating exhibits. Fleet Landing Restaurant & Bar (186 Concord St.), the place for fresh seafood and waterfront views, is right next door to the cruise port.

Harris Teeter (290 East Bay St.) is less than half a mile from the cruise port, should you wish to grab snacks, drinks and other groceries. The city of Charleston is on a peninsula surrounded by a harbor, so there's no beach access within its limits. However, if you crave a little extra sand time, you'll find some popular beaches within a fairly short drive. If you're looking for an upscale stay, Mills House Charleston, Curio Collection by Hilton is an excellent choice (80,000 to 459,000 Hilton Honors points per night). It exudes laid-back luxury with a distinctly Southern style, and the rooftop pool bar area is a prime spot for spectacular views of Charleston's steeple-filled skyline. Long-term parking for cruise passengers' vehicles at the port does not require reservations.

If you decide to spend more time in the Holy City before or after your cruise, here are some things to do in Charleston. Relax by the fire pit, or take a dip in the outdoor waterfront pool. The Bistro is the hotel's only restaurant, but it also serves specialty Starbucks beverages if you can't function without your morning caramel macchiato latte. For a quick overnight before a cruise, the Hilton Garden Inn Charleston Waterfront/Downtown is an ideal option (41,000 to 60,000 Hilton Honors points per night).
